The BD source for the main TV series is decent, with a native resolution of around 864p. The only issue lies in line aliasing, for which the solution is to apply descaling and reconstruction followed by slilght anti-aliasing. The flat areas are fine, exhibiting almost no banding, and the noise layer is also very ideal. Therefore, treatment for the flat areas involved adaptive texture sharpening, a minimum amount of de-banding, and quite conservative adaptive de-noising. Meanwhile, to preserve the art style, we kept the chroma noise. High bitrate was also generously allocated to the chroma plane with an intent to retain the drawing and art style related details.
The OADs, on the other hand, have a much worse image quality. Lines look faint with inconsistent thickness, and ringing is very obvious. The noise layer is poor looking, too. PP for the OADs involves IVTC, colour space transform, multiple rounds of de-ringing, scaling with a neural network based algorithm, de-noising, reconstruction of the noise layer, and de-banding.
As the screenshots from the OAD source have a different resolution than the output, for ease of comparison, the screenshots underwent IVTC, colour space transform, then scaled with Spline36 algorithm.
